Sam Callanta is an artist who holds a BA in Theatre and East Asian Studies from Ursinus College. She has worked for a number of theaters along the East Coast as a scenic artist and costumer in Baltimore, MD. Show credits include A Year with Frog and Toad at the Community College of Baltimore County (CCBC) (2019), Sideshow at CCBC (2018), Peter and the Starcatcher at Cecil College (2018), Samsara at Single Carrot Theatre (2017), Spamalot at CCBC (2016), and Neverwhere at Cohesion Theatre Company (2016). In 2018, she co-founded the Baltimore Asian Pasifika Arts Collective (baltimoreapac.org) with other Baltimore-based artists to advocate and provide a network for local AAPI (Asian-American/Pacific/Indigenous) artists.
As a visual artist, her work has been on display at the Antique Automobile Club of America Museum in Hershey, PA, as part of their Steampunk U exhibit. In addition, she interned for Brute Force Studios (http://www.bruteforceleather.com/) in 2014 and contributed to the GIANT ROBOT project, which would go on to be filmed for A&E's Shipping Wars (Season 6, "Punch-drunk Love"). She has sold her leather craft at various conventions, including TeslaCon and Wild Wild West Con.
She is now pursuing a degree in Art Conservation and is seeking pre-program experience. She is committed to completing the pre-requisities for a graduate degree and is currently an enrolled student at the Community College of Baltimore County. She works as a Conservation Technician for EverGreene Architectural Arts in Washington DC. Previously, she completed an internship in Textile Collection Management with Steppingstone Farm Museum in Havre de Grace, MD.
